StArfrica strengthens Ghana – Germany startup cooperation

A strategic visit with long-term impact

In February, the StArfrica team traveled to Accra to further deepen cooperation between the Ghanaian startup ecosystem and the German startup landscape. The visit brought together key partners from diplomacy, science, and entrepreneurship, while also accompanying the Alleina AI team on its journey to Germany.

Strengthening diplomatic and institutional partnerships

A highlight was the meeting with German Deputy Ambassador Sivine Jansen. The startup Alleina, the StArfrica initiative, and funding opportunities under the EXIST startup grant were presented. The embassy signaled its support for both Alleina and StArfrica’s strategic work to intensify entrepreneurial cooperation between Ghana and Germany.

In discussions with DAAD Regional Director Lena Leumer, the role of StArfrica in the Falling Walls Lab as a strategic gateway to promoting promising teams from Ghana and Nigeria was further explored

Preparing the Alleina team for the German innovation environment

Another focus was on specifically preparing the Alleina team for entry into the German innovation ecosystem. To this end, a workshop on “Business etiquette and integration in Germany” was held to address cultural, organizational, and entrepreneurial conditions at an early stage.

Visibility of EXIST and activation of new teams

Together with Innovate Labs Ghana, StArfrica organized a pitching session for early-stage founders interested in funding opportunities in Germany. Several teams meet the EXIST criteria and are now undergoing in-depth review.

Further discussions took place at the Innovation Hub of the University of Ghana Business School, where a promising concept with potential for the EXIST program was presented.
