Connecting German and African Entrepreneurial Ecosystems
Since 2020, StArfrica – Startup Germany-Africa has been building a strong entrepreneurial bridge between Africa and Germany. Our mission is to make Germany an attractive launchpad for African founding teams and startups emerging from the scientific community, while also supporting German startups in exploring and entering African markets.
By fostering this mutual exchange of ideas, talent, and opportunities, we are creating real impact:
- New jobs are generated both in Germany and across Africa.
- Markets are opened up, unlocking pathways for innovative solutions.
- Cross-continental networks are expanded, strengthened, and implemented.
StArfrica has a physical presence in Rwanda, Ghana, Tanzania, and Kenya.

StArfrica is a project funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy of Germany (BMWE) and implemented by the University of Koblenz. Through this strong foundation, we are able to connect ecosystems, foster innovation, and expand opportunities across borders.
EXIST Service Centre for Africa
Today, StArfrica is proud to serve as the EXIST Service Centre for Africa — making one of Germany’s most important startup funding programs more accessible to African innovators through our partnerships with leading universities and innovation hubs across the continent.

Our Key Activities
StArfrica Incubator Program
This incubator program aims to support students and researchers at African universities in converting science-based start-up ideas into applications for an EXIST Business Startup Grant in Germany.
Entrepreneurship Exchange Weeks
The exchange weeks allow African start-ups to get to know the German start-up ecosystem, make contacts, and develop potential business partnerships. In the same way, German start-ups can get access to the start-up ecosystems in Africa.
